Lena is a pioneering edtech company founded by passionate Africans to transform learning across the continent. Our flagship solution, the Lena Learning and School Management System, provides a powerful suite of tools tailored for schools, educators, and students in Africa.
This comprehensive platform simplifies teaching, enabling instructors to host courses, assign work, and seamlessly communicate with students. It empowers learners to actively engage from anywhere and allows schools to efficiently manage classes, resources, and staff.
Lena addresses the specific needs of African educational systems, functioning reliably even in regions with limited internet connectivity. Our solution offers a low-tech, highly effective platform tailored to the diverse needs of African institutions.
OUR STORY
It all started from a pandemic!
During the COVID-19 pandemic, schools across Africa faced immense challenges in transitioning to online learning, leading to significant disruptions in education. Many students missed months of learning, and existing tools proved inadequate for effective teaching. This crisis highlighted the need for resilient educational solutions tailored to African schools. At Lena, we responded by creating technology designed specifically for the African educational landscape, ensuring continuity and excellence in learning, regardless of circumstances.

Identifying the problem
Our founding team recognized the crucial role of technology in enhancing African education and securing a brighter future for the continent. The onset of the pandemic further highlighted this need.
2021
Engaging with our community
We extensively engaged with students, schools, teachers, and parents across Africa to understand the pandemic's impact on education and to explore desired solutions. These conversations shaped our vision for improving education on the continent.
2022
Lena officially launches
We launched Lena, named to reflect our commitment to learners across Africa, with a dedicated team of engineers, designers, and product and business managers. By year's end, we received the AT&T Ozy Genius Award, a $10k grant to develop our educational management systems.
2023
Gaining momentum
We chose Nigeria as our launchpad, formed strategic partnerships with local schools, and refined our development through four design iterations based on feedback. Lena also won the Founders’ Fund from the Magnuson Center for Entrepreneurship at Dartmouth, receiving a $5k grant.
2024
Launch year
In 2024, Lena is initiating pilot programs in August/September at 3 schools, aiming to reach over 3,000 students in our first year as we continue enhancing and expanding our platform.
